More than 6 million procedures have been done with Restylane worldwide, and very seldom have any complications arisen. An allergic reaction or rejection by the body is much more likely to occur with animal based products.
 
Other possible side effects are generally temporary, and mild, such as swelling, bruising or local infection, and are easily resolved.
 
Should it be necessary, the hyaluronic acid can be completely degraded and eliminated with the use of hyaluronidase.
