The Thermage System was developed in 1995 by a plastic surgeon in the USA. Since it was first used in medical suites in 2000, it is estimated that over 400 000 procedures have been performed worldwide, with an excellent safety record – a side effect incidence of less than 0.4%.  Side effects, when they do occur, are mild, such as redness, swelling or surface irregularity, which generally settle within a few hours.
